I was born in the McDonald Community Covington County just west of Collins. Many years ago my ancestors settled there because it was good farming land. Our settlers multiplied until the land was mostly owned and farmed by McDonalds. They built McDonald’s Presbyterian Church and established McDonald Cemetery.
I grew up in a large family, being the oldest of seven children. We were farmers. I married Bill Massengale at 18 and had one son. Bill was a construction superintendent.
When my son started to school, I went to Jones County Junior College. I finished The University of Southern Mississippi and started teaching. I taught for 26 years. I have always enjoyed working in community clubs and organizations. Some years after my first husband died, I married Buddy Brown, who died after 3 and a half years of marriage. I then married the love of my life, Clarence Hill. He was an educator and top operator at Amerada Hess. We grew flowers and traveled extensively.
